Rivers United of Nigeria were unable to overcome their first-leg deficit as they were held to a goalless draw by Young Africans in the second leg of their TotalEneriges CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final tie on Sunday.

The Tanzanian team put up a strong defensive display against their Nigerian opponents in the return leg of the tie at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar-es-Salaam.

Young Africans had won the first leg 2-0, making it a daunting task for Rivers United to progress to the semi-finals.

Despite creating some chances in the first half, the Nigerian team was unable to convert them into goals, and the match remained goalless at halftime.

The second half saw Young Africans dominate possession and create more opportunities, but the Rivers United defense held firm.

Goalkeeper Victor Sochima made several crucial saves to keep his team in the game, but they were unable to find the back of the net.

Yanga fans were thrilled by their team’s progress to the next round, and this was visible as they danced and sung during the game.

On the other hand, Rivers United were dissatisfied with their performance, as they were unsuccessful in reversing the first-leg shortfall.

Yanga will now face Marumo Gallants of South Africa in the semi-finals of the TotalEneriges CAF Confederation Cup, whereas Rivers United will shift their focus to the domestic league, with the aspiration of finishing the season on a positive note.
