The Crested Cranes fell to the Teranga Lionesses on match-day two of the ongoing Women Africa Cup Of Nations 2022 in Rabat, Morocco.

Senegal beat Uganda 2-0 in a historical game that saw the latter make a second impression on the stage, 22 years later.

Uganda dominated both stanzas of the game having obtained above 55% in possession, ten chances, and five of them being on target, but were not fortunate enough to secure a win.

Fauzia Najjembe erected countless excellent runs toward the Senegalese defense but only lagged at transforming them into goals.

Senegal snatched the lead through midfielder Ndeye Awa Diakite after a feeble contact from Aisha Nantongo on Balde Haby in the box.

Ndeye positioned the ball wide enough into the bottom corner to beat Uganda’s custodian Ruth Aturo who dived in the right direction but only late.

From the many chances missed by the crested cranes, Phiona Nabbumba put Senegal’s defense to test when she struck the woodwork moments after coming as as substitute for Hasiffa Nassuna.

In response, at five minutes into the second half, Nguenar Ndiaye eased past Ruth Aturo to score a second goal for Senegal.

The goal however prompted a VAR check since the referee Dorsaf Ganouati had ruled an offside on the goal scorer prior to receiving the assist from Hapsatou Diallo.

Fazila Ikwaput came through with an explosive display in the offense for Uganda but was kept at bay by Senegal’s goalie and Captain Tenning Sene.

The local league top scorer was a substitute for FC Dornbirn’s Viola Nambi in the second half.

Senegal as well made all three substitutions 20 minutes to full time having striker Astou Ngom on for Nguenar Ndiaye and Mame Diouf on for defender Mbayang Sow then Bineta Seck for Haby Balde at 76 minutes to defend their lead and as well maintain the attack.

The win puts Senegal on top of group A with a goal difference advantage over Morocco who beat Burkina Faso 1-0 on Saturday.

Uganda currently are bottom of the table one goal behind Burkina Faso.

Next on Group A fixture, host Morocco will play Uganda on the 5th at 11pm as Burkina Faso take on Senegal.
