Abuja Nigeria, April 3, 2025 – Hundreds of fans packed into Mushood Abiola Sport Indoor Hall on Thursday evening, to witness the official opening of the 39th edition of the continent’s most prestigious event for clubs under the patronage of the first lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu (CON), and in the presence of CAVB president Bouchra Hajij and the Controller General of Nigeria Customs Service among other top dignitaries.

Nigeria is hosting her second ever club championship with sixteen club from ten countries attracted to the event.

Matches were played in Pool A featuring Rwandan APR who shocked Carthage of Tunisia in a famous victory that will go down in the history books. APR won 3-1 (18-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-23) in Pool A opener to registered one of the biggest victories in their history at the continental tourney.

In the other Pool A encounter, host Nigeria Customs had an easy show against the young Mayo Kane Evolution of Cameroun in straight sets 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-22) victory in front home fans.
