Vipers will now advance to the first round of the CAF Champions League following a successful preliminary round that saw them oust Olympic Real De Bangui on a 4:0 aggregate.

Striker Yunus Sentamu scored Vipers’ lone goal against Bangui in the return leg of the preliminary round at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, yesterday.

The first leg was a debut to remember for new signings Abdu Lumala and Isa Mubiru as they added one goal each, to youngster Najib Yiga’s 55-minute shocker and won the game by 3-0 in Congo Brazzaville, last week.

The Venoms could have picked even a much better result yesterday but were not clinical enough in the final third as two big opportunities were mishandled, eight minutes after kick-off.

One of them was a missed target at five minutes and the other came three minutes later when Milton Karisa was denied by Bangui goalkeeper Levante Paterine Gisamito at eight minutes.

Vipers’ goal came at the 18th-minute mark when Sentamu flapped through two defenders off a ball from Karisa and slotted it passed the goalie to make it 1-0.

A bunch of missed chances by Vipers in both stanzas saw the score untampered with until full-time, as the visitors had one scare at the goal but were unlucky to utilize it.

Next will be Vipers taking on former Champions League winners, TP Mazembe in the First Round of the CAF Champions League, starting October 7th.

BUL fail to make it passed Future Fc

Another Club from Uganda representing on the continent BUL Fc lost away 1-0 to Egyptian side Future FC in their return leg of the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round, at the Cairo International Stadium, yesterday.

The heartbreaker came 14 minutes to full-time off a direct free kick goal by Joseph Jonathan that flashed down efforts from a well-commanded man-less BUL defense. Defender Walter Ochora was given matching orders following a second booking 20 minutes after kick-off.

BUL and Future Fc played out a goalless draw in the first leg at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende, so an any-score draw could have seen the Jinja side progress to the next stage, but with this result, they had themselves packing.

Future FC, will take on Kallon FC from Sierra Leone in the next stage of the competition.
