Greenhill Academy Kibuli has emerged victorious once again at the 8th Primary Schools’ Swimming Gala organized by the Uganda Swimming Federation at the Greenhill Academy pool in Namuwongo.
The event, held on Saturday 11th, was well-attended by swimmers and their parents from different schools across the region.
After an intense day of 60 competitive events, Greenhill Academy was declared the winners with a combined score of 1243.5, defending their title from the last edition. The team put up an impressive performance, dominating most of the events and clinching several first-place finishes.
Kampala Junior School came in second place with a total score of 816.5, besting Pax Junior School Kira, who finished third with 672.5 points. Hill Preparatory School, who also put up a strong showing, came in fourth with a total score of 612 points.
The atmosphere at the gala was electric, with swimmers and their parents cheering on their respective schools. The competition was a testament to the growing interest in swimming among primary school students in Uganda, with many showcasing their skills in the pool.
Speaking after the event, the Uganda Swimming Federation officials lauded the swimmers for their outstanding performance and commended the schools for their commitment to promoting the sport. They also expressed their hope that the competition would continue to grow and attract even more participants in the future.
In the girls’ eight and under 100 SC Meter freestyle relay, Brain Button emerged victorious with a finish time of 1:18:20, earning them all 18 points. Tal Islamic and Greenhill Academy secured second and third place respectively, with finish times of 1:32:01 and 1:42:01.
The most anticipated event of the day was the boys’ 11-12 100 SC Meter freestyle relay, which saw Greenhill Academy taking the top spot with a record-breaking time of 1:03:83. Pax Junior School came in second with a time of 1:11:14.
Greenhill’s duo of Elijah Wamala (12) and Adam Katumba (11) dominated the boys’ 50 SC Meter freestyle, finishing first and second with a time of 31:29 and 35:62 respectively.
Although they were unable to beat their own seed times of 30:00 and 31:00, they still managed to outswim their closest rival, Jeremiah Magera (12) from Arcons International School, who finished with a time of 35:81, just microseconds behind Katumba.
In the girls’ 11-12 50 SC Meter freestyle, Karen Mwangi (12) from Tree Shade Primary School took the top spot with a time of 32:23, narrowly missing out on beating her own seed time of 32:11.
Greenhill’s Yeta Magoola (11) and Carlyn Nabiryo (12) finished in second and third place respectively, with times of 32:69 and 33:85. Yeta’s time was a significant improvement from her seed time of 34:00.
Overall, the event was a huge success, with young swimmers showcasing their skills and determination.
The Uganda Swimming Federation continues to nurture and promote swimming talent among primary school students, paving the way for future swimming champions.
