In a significant stride towards addressing longstanding infrastructure challenges in Uganda’s sports sector, the government of Uganda has joined hands with Summa, a renowned Turkish construction company, to embark on the construction of a cutting-edge multipurpose indoor sports complex.

The state-of-the-art facility, boasting a staggering seating capacity of 15,000 spectators, is anticipated to be a game-changer for the nation’s sports enthusiasts.

The ambitious project is slated to be situated on the premises of the National Council of Sports (NCS) at Lugogo, a bustling suburb of Kampala.

This announcement unfolded during a meeting attended by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, Minister of State for Sports, Peter Ogwang, and representatives from Summa Construction Company.

President Museveni warmly welcomed Summa Construction Company to Uganda and unequivocally pledged the government’s unwavering support to ensure the successful realization of this transformative endeavor.

The First Lady, Janet Museveni, commended Minister Ogwang and his team for their relentless dedication to the project, emphasizing its potential to elevate the nation’s sports sector to unprecedented heights.

The multipurpose indoor sports complex is slated to feature a wealth of world-class amenities, including a main indoor arena capable of seating 15,000 spectators, a smaller indoor sports arena with a capacity for 3,000 attendees, a state-of-the-art 25-meter, eight-lane swimming pool, and a multi-purpose standard pitch.

Additionally, the facility will house a 60-person athlete hostel, an accommodation facility with 120 rooms, a showroom, a shopping center, and a top-tier fitness gym, among other modern conveniences.

Critically, this development addresses a long-standing challenge—the inadequacy of sports facilities at Lugogo to meet international standards for hosting prestigious competitions.

Such events have the dual benefit of stimulating economic growth by generating revenue and creating employment opportunities, as well as attracting further investment.

Murat Altun, the Project Manager of Summa Construction Company, expressed their readiness to embark on this transformative journey and assured timely completion of the project.

He cited the company’s successful track record in delivering projects in various countries, including Rwanda.

According to the Ugandan government, their partnership with Summa Construction Company heralds a new era of sports infrastructure development in the country, promising to raise Uganda’s profile on the global sporting stage while fostering economic growth and job creation.
