Uganda’s 2020 Olympics pugilists, Catherine Nanziri, David Ssemujju and Shadir Musa Bwogi have turned to professional boxing.

The trio signed a professional contract with 12 Sports Rounds promotions in Kampala.

The three amongst others are set for professional bouts on 1st April 2022 at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.

“Amateur Boxing is free, now is the time to make money and i am here to make that happen.” Said Catherine Nanziri

Nanziri however, wants to juggle between amateur and professional boxing in the meantime.

“At the 2020 Olympics, I learnt a lot and I expect what I have leant to help me in my quest for a place in the commonwealth games and the professional ranks.” Said Nanziri.

Bwogi, former captain of the Bombers (Uganda National Boxing Team) will square up with Herbert Mugarura

‘I started boxing at the age of 7 and i have come out as the best amateur boxer in Uganda and East Africa, now is the time to take care of myself, i am here demanding for what is mine, i have come to conquer, i have a broom and will sweep every opponent away, i am ready”. A buoyant Musa Bwogi told a parked press conference in Kampala.

Bwogi’s opponent Herbert Mugarura (super welter) made his professional debut in 2011 and has had 9 fights, 4 wins and 5 losses, his last fight being in 2018.

“Bwogi is physically and mentally ready for the pro fight, but being that the fight is at his home area, he has to do double the task”. Said Bwogis Coach at KCCA Boxing Club Oly. Vicky Byarugaaba

Bwogi will be fighting withing his locality Naguru a Kampala suburb. Philip Omondi stadium is just 500meters from Bwogi’s East Coast Boxing Club.
