Kenya’s Under-20 women’s volleyball team, the Junior Malkia Strikers, began their campaign at the Africa U20 Volleyball Championship in Cameroon with a convincing 3-0 victory over Senegal. The set scores were 25-13, 25-12, and 25-11 in favour of Kenya.
The young Kenyan side displayed confidence and energy right from the start. Their powerful serves, solid defence, and sharp attacks allowed them to dominate the match in all three sets.

Opposite hitter Terry Tata stood out with an exceptional performance. Her powerful spikes, effective serving, and strong defensive plays earned her the Player of the Match award.
After the match, head coach Jackline Barasa praised the team’s overall display but also pointed out areas for improvement.
“We had tough serves, good backcourt defence, and strong attacks,” she said. “However, we still need to improve our reception and setting. In the first set, we had a few challenges, but the girls settled down well after that.”
Coach Barasa also applauded Tata’s leadership on the court.
“She was calm, encouraged her teammates, and her blocking and attacking were excellent.”
Ahead of the match, Coach Barasa had encouraged her players to stay relaxed, communicate well, and remember the promise they made to the Cabinet Secretary for Sports and to Kenyans to give their best and fight for qualification.
As they prepare to face hosts Cameroon next, the focus is now on tightening reception and refining their setup.
The coach concluded with a heartfelt message to fans back home.
“We are bringing victory home. Please keep praying and supporting us.”
With this win, the Junior Malkia Strikers have taken an important first step towards their goal of qualifying for the FIVB World U20 Championship.
