It was all cheers and applause for the Nsambya-based team as they lifted the national club champions’ trophy amidst disappointed Nemostars fans.
Sport S beat a seemingly dull Nemootars 3-1 (25-27, 24-26, 25-17, 25-19) to be crowned champions with brilliant performances from left-handed Dickens Otim who pulled off a real Captain’s performance, power attacker Odong and setter Marino who “understood the assignment”.
Nemo-Stars won set two by a whisker to push the game to four sets played and they won 26-24 which was a truly close call in a set where legendary setter and coach player Warren Muhangi came in for Marino Oboke of Sport S.
Everybody has a bad day at office and clearly this looked like the case for receive attacker George Aporu also Nemostars captain as his “on-leave” reception costed the team on that fateful game. Both teams were awarded with medals and a trophy.
Sport-S and Nemostars automatically qualified to represent Uganda at the Men’s Africa Club Championships 2022 whose dates and venues are yet to be announced by CAVB.
Attention now shifts to the National Volleyball League 2nd round which serves off from 22nd January 2022.
