Saturday evening was an opportunity for table leaders Sport-S to complete a season double against another National league powerhouse -the Orange Block Busters-, barely a month after beating nemesis Nemostars in their second meeting.

The Nsambya side was all guns blazing as they won 3-1 against Johnson Kawenywera’s boys who came to the game with six wins in a row, making this his first loss to count, in the moderately packed arena.

OBB gambled with the first four points but later grew stronger to pose a meaningful threat despite gassing out to lose the first set by 8 points.

At 7-7, both teams had already posted a contender’s performance with Sharif Nabaji appearing top of his game as Tumukunde and Owen made the block work on the Sport S attack trio of Engwau, Thon and Rukundo.

In set two both teams maintained their starting six, as Emmanuel Okia opened with an ace for Sport S landing between Sharif and Cosmas who were on the move for a position switch.

OBB had Jonathan and Cosmas coming from backcourt in positions one and five after their front line attack met no way through mid-air against Okia and Engwau.

Once again the score locked at eight-all until a miscalculated jump service by Cosmas denied OBB the chance to pedal forward in a “now or never” moment.

Adome was brought off for new setter Edrisa, and nervous as he was, he managed to set Jonathan for his first on-ball in the play area.

Thon Makar brought the roar back into the Arena when he met a poorly manned OBB gate to pound just centimeters behind the attack line that further pushed Sport-S’ lead.

Middle and four were OBB’s unused positions as they had to rely on position two and backcourt-in-one to attack, which were dictated by a poor reception.

On the other side of the net, Sport-S didn’t make at most use of position two, keeping Odong flat footed though once in a while came on with a banger.

An effecient block from Sport-S had them lead and finish with five points ahead as they further ironed out OBB’s weakness in the mixer and center position for set two.

Adome returned as mixer for OBB in set three starting in position one and Sport-S’ Odongo in two drove into the net with no blocks before the game went into another tie at five points a piece.

Cosmas delivered an ace in set three to keep OBB three points ahead but his efforts on the third service attempt were netted, which brought Sport-S closer by one.

Setter Julius came on for Marino, wing hitter Muluri Emma came on for Rukundo, making it the most unwise change by Mugisha who later brought on Captain Dickens in a panic shift.

Kevin Kiplangat in four was the man to revive the lost noise in the OBB camp with two attacks in a row between a duo Sport-S block landing untouched.

Sport-S came from five points down to close in, trail by two, tie the set at 22 before leading and later losing it by a whisker.

Emmanuel Okia served off the winning set, and a ballooned reception by Kevin Kiplangat instantly gave them the needed advantage to dominate the Iganga side.

Unforced errors in the service and reception by OBB placed Sport-S in a comfortable five point lead though attempts by the former to reignite the chase yielded to force a tie at 14 then middle blocker Owen fumbled with their only chance to lead after a service in the net.
