South Africa wins big as Gift represents for Uganda at FIM Africa MX Championship

South Africa won four golds of the seven classes to finish top overall in the 2022 Motorcross of African Nations continental championship.

The two-day event sponsored by mountain dew had six nations vie for the African title at the Victoria race track in Garuga, over the weekend.

Hosts Uganda came third with 578 points behind Zambia who trailed South Africa by one point. Zambia 653, South Africa 654.

South Africa’s Jayden Proctor (MX1), Callan Broskie (MX2), Breece Romans (MX 125) and Aiden Retief (MX65) won in all rounds and collected maximum points in their classes to make it to the center of the podium on the final day.

Uganda’s Gift Sebuguzi in the 85cc class put up a stellar heat one on a muddy track and a clean finish in round three on the final day to enhance his performance and cap at the highest spot on the podium with an overall 57 points despite coming second in round two.

He later stood up out to be the only Ugandan rider to champion a category.

In the MX1, Team Uganda Captain Alestair Blick garnered 45 points for a podium finish in third place, and six points behind Scott Heygate from Zambia.

Other podium finishes for Uganda were Miguel Katende from the Katende brothers, Fatuh Kiggundu in the MX2 category and James Akena who came second in the Vet/Masters class with 34 points.

Kenya collected 346 points to finish fourth while Botswana finished fifth with 37 followed by Zimbabwe with 33 points.

Champions South Africa will host the same event next year.
