Port Mathurin, Rodrigues – 6 May 2025 | The Minister of Youth and Sports, Darmarajen Nagalingum, met volleyball players of the Rodrigues Orange Club Sportif d’Amitiés team, at the seat of the Ministry in Port Louis. The team participated in the 2025 African Men’s Volleyball Club Championship which was held from 17 to 30 April in Misrata, Libya, and made it to the round of 16.

The Junior Minister of Youth and Sports, Mrs Eileen Karen Lee Chin Foo Kune-Bacha, as well as officers of the Ministry were also present during the meeting.

At the outset Minister Nagalingum commended the players and the coaching staff for their performance during this 46th edition of the championship, and encouraged them to continue the hard work for the forthcoming competitions such as the 2025 Indian Ocean Youth and Sport Commission games. He assured that the Ministry of Youth and Sports has at heart the youth’s interest and will continue to provide adequate assistance to athletes so that they can excel in their discipline.

The Minister stressed that equal facilities and support must be provided to athletes from Mauritius and Rodrigues as the two countries form part of the Republic. According to him, the best athletes from Rodrigues must, from now on, be considered when building a national team to compete in any discipline.

As for Junior Minister Foo Kune-Bacha, she congratulated the players for their hard work, dedication and teamwork during the championship. She also reassured that the Ministry will support the team to achieve its set objectives in future competitions.

The players seized the opportunity to apprise Minister Nagalingum of the difficulties they are currently facing, such as the lack of adequate training facilities, absence of a software for collecting data regarding their performance and proper support to the coaching staff. They appealed for a solution to be found so that they can prepare for the forthcoming competitions in the best possible conditions.
