Athletes from five sports disciplines were awarded on Tuesday morning, with the best of January accolades in a ceremony held at Route 256 in Lugogo.

Shadir Musa Bwogi has returned to the winners’ list for the second time this month after being named best boxer of January in the Fortebet Real Star Awards.

The southpaw has won the award twice, with the first coming three years ago in 2020 when he beat David Ssemujju and Emily Nakalema to bag the February award moments after qualifying for the Olympics.

His victory against Police’s Ivan Magumba in the National Super Welterweight title at the start of the year has seen him headline tabloids as he eyes the continental belt.

Nsekuye of Makerere Impis won the best Rugby Player of January at the same event after beating Heathens’ Aaron Ofoyrwoth and Pirates’ Ivan Magomu.

Nsekuye still leads the top scorer’s chart with 51 points and has so far been named Man of the Match twice, that is against the Hippos and the Mongers in the Rugby Premier League.

The 28-year-old fly-half was also a standout as his side -Impis Rugby Club- edged rivals Rams 23-21, to win the Makerere Derby on Saturday at the Graveyard Rugby ground in Makerere.

Impis now have four wins from the four games they have played this season, which comes as a surprise after surviving relegation in the previous season.

Budding Cricketer Ronald Lutaaya scored a century to help the Itanda Kayakers win the Waterfalls Elite T20 Men’s Edition last month in a final against the Bujagaali Rafters at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

He topped Lady cricketers Proscovia Alako who played for the Bujjagali Rafters and Janet Mbabazi who played for the Sipi Trekkers in the Women’s Waterfalls Edition.

During the final, Lutaaya had his mother cheering him in the stands and he says She is a big inspiration to him as he pursues his career in cricket.

National Champs MX 125cc round one winner Waleed Omar won the Motocross gong against Miguel Katende and Wazir Omar, while Rasheeda Mutesi who steered the Mukono Ladies Pool team to their first league victory beat Rukia Naiga and Ibrahim Ssejemba, to take home the best Pool Player award.
