Uganda women’s cricket team secured a comfortable 29-run victory over the United Arab Emirates in the third game of the Capricorn Eagles Quadrangular Series on Saturday morning (April 29th, 2023).
Uganda won the toss and elected to bat first, with Proscovia Alako leading the charge with an outstanding knock of 85 runs. Janet Mbabazi also chipped in with a valuable contribution of 30 runs as Uganda posted a total of 159 runs for the loss of four wickets.
In response, the UAE struggled to build partnerships as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Kavisha Kumari top-scored with 51 runs, while Esha Oza added 36 runs to the scoreboard.
However, their efforts were not enough as Consy Aweko and Stephanie Nampiina claimed two wickets each to restrict the UAE to 130 runs for the loss of four wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
The player of the match award went to Proscovia Alako for her match-winning innings. With this victory, Uganda earned their first win in the tournament and will look to build on their momentum as they take on Namibia in the next game.
The match was filled with some exciting moments, including the opening over of Uganda’s innings where Indhuja Nandakumar took on the new ball and bowled a tight over to the new batsman Kevin Awino.
However, Proscovia Alako and Kevin Awino managed to add a crucial partnership of 107 runs for the second wicket, setting the platform for Uganda to post a competitive total.
In the second innings, UAE made a decent start with Chaya Mughal and Esha Oza at the crease but Uganda’s Irene Alumo put a brake on their scoring rate by bowling a tight over and taking a crucial wicket of Chaya Mughal.
With 40 runs needed in the last over, UAE could not find the boundaries they needed and finished their innings at 130 runs.
It was a convincing win for Uganda, who would be pleased with their all-round performance. They will be hoping to continue their winning momentum in the upcoming games.
