Fresh from winning the Uganda Netball League, Prisons Netball team have embarked on a journey to conquer the East African netball gong.
The Luzira based outfit will be competing in the 2023 East Africa Netball Championship in Nairobi Kenya.
The tournament will throw off on the 13th to 20th May 2023 at the Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi city in Kenya.
On behalf of the Commissioner General of Prisons, Superintendent of Prisons (OC – Sports) Jimmy Anguzu flagged off the team in Luzira.
‘Qualifying for a regional tournament is a great milestone to Uganda Prisons Service because the girls worked hard to beat a stiff competition to become the best in Uganda’. Said Jimmy Anguzu.
In the 2022 edition held in Kampala, Prisons finished third after a 51-37 triumph over Tamisemi of Tanzania. In the same event, NIC beat KCCA 44-35 to the crown.

A contingent of 14 players have been selected for the trip.
Defenders: Lillian Ajio, Sylivia Nanyonga, Stella Nanfuka, Mumena Tauisi Issa and Viola Asingo.
Mid-Court: Juliet Nakafeero, Janet Adongo, Joyce Nakibuule, Malisera Akello, Flavia Donia.
Shooters: Dorothy Tabia, Hadijah Nakabuye, Christine Numlumba, Sandera Namutebi
Prisons, NIC and Weyonje will represent Uganda in the women’s category while, WOB and Kampala University are the men’s teams from Uganda.
The annual events that attract top Netball Clubs from Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibari, Zambia and South Sudan.
