Peace Kabasweka claims first victory on fourth attempt at Uganda Golf Club Ladies Open

Winner of the Uganda Golf Club Ladies Open tournament 2022 Peace Kabasweka has her eyes now set on the Uganda Open after an impressive win yesterday -Saturday- at the Uganda Golf Club in Kitante.

Kabasweka of Tooro golf club beat Gloria Mbaguta and defending champion Martha Babirye to finish top of the leaderboard with a 227 gross in the silver category.

Gloria Mbaguta scored 228 to finish second while UGC’s Martha Babirye scored 231 to finish ahead of Eva Magala who finished fourth with a 238 gross.

Peace’s win in this tournament comes after a series of attempts from 2018, 2019, and 2021 where She always finished second.

The four-day Tournament started on Wednesday -the 17th- and climaxed yesterday -the 20th-, at the Uganda Golf Club Kitante with a prize-giving ceremony that featured over 200 golfers from clubs around the country.

Kabasweka said: “I feel great winning finally, I am happy and excited. I put in a lot after losing last year, so I thank God my efforts paid off.”

“The win has given me more courage, and I believe if we all work together and double our efforts, we shall do well as team Uganda.” She added.

Peace also won the Entebbe Ladies Gala this year and She says her next challenge will be to lead Team Uganda as Captain to win the Uganda Open Golf Tournament in October as well as the All Africa Challenge Trophy next month in Dar es Salaam at the Gymkhana Club.

Other than just the tournament trophy, as the winner and first runner-up, Peace Kabasweka and Gloria Mbaguta won themselves return tickets to Mombasa and Zanzibar respectively, courtesy of Uganda Airlines.

In the Pros category, Ronald Rugumayo shot an overall 6 under 138 in two rounds to retain the professionals title of the UGC Ladies Open, and take a lions share of the the UGX10M cash prize.

Lead sponsors National Medical Stores (NMS), who were represented on the final day by their Chief Stores and Operations Officer Paul Okware, injected ush 60 million in the tournament and promised to continue being a part of it as they have always been since its inception in 2018.

Tusker Malt Lager brought to life the 19th hole experience, with other tournament sponsors including, Pepsi, NCBA Bank, CASE Clinic and Uganda Airlines.

*Bronze: Evelyn Atukunda – 121 nett

*Junior female – Victoria McKenzie – 66 nett
*Longest drive – Diana Nambalirwa
*Nearest to pin – Margret Noki
Subsidiary Men.
*Seniors men: Daniel Kalimuzo – 73 nett c/b
*Junior: Charles Kamyuka – 71 nett
*Longest drive – John Musimeeta
Nearest to pin – Andrew Muhwezi

The next challenge for the golfers will be to improve their skills by practicing more often and make sure that they keep track of how many strokes they take per hole so that they can improve their game in the future.
