Amidst the ongoing transfer season in Ugandan volleyball, there has been notable activity within the Orange Block Busters (OBB) team.

One of their key players, Jonathan Tumukunde, 24 year old opposite, recently made a significant move to join Sport-S, the reigning league champions and holders of the National Club Championships (NCC).

Tumukunde’s departure from OBB follows Nespal Angiro’s transfer from UCU to Rwanda’s APR on a three-month deal.

Although the transfer market has been relatively subdued and lacking its usual vibrancy, the movement of these players highlights the shifting dynamics within Ugandan volleyball and the desire for teams to strengthen their rosters ahead of upcoming competitions.

The news of Tumukunde’s transfer was announced by OBB via their official Twitter handle, where they expressed gratitude for his contributions, stating, “Thank you for being such an important part of our family. We couldn’t have accomplished what we did without you!”

The talented player’s departure leaves OBB facing more challenges as they grapple with off-court issues, including a rapid succession of four coaching changes during the season.

Jonathan Tumukunde, known for his impressive performances, reached two finals (won one) with OBB, namely the NCC in Iganga and the Nkumba Open.

The young athlete had previously represented the Uganda Christian University (UCU) and Nemostars before joining OBB during last season’s transfer period.

The departure of Tumukunde raises concerns about the stability and organization within the OBB dressing room.

Rumors have already emerged suggesting that the team could potentially lose more players if the internal issues are not resolved promptly.

Among those rumored to be on the radar for a transfer is outside hitter Cosmas Apunyo, whose future with the team remains uncertain.

OBB’s recent struggles off the court have certainly overshadowed their on-court performances.

The constant changes in coaching staff and potential player departures threaten to destabilize the team, potentially affecting their competitive edge in upcoming tournaments.

To maintain their status as a competitive force in Ugandan volleyball, OBB needs to address these challenges promptly and ensure a cohesive and supportive environment for their players.

Meanwhile, Sport-S, the reigning league champions and NCC holders, appear to be strengthening their squad by acquiring talented players like Tumukunde, who joins an already daring line up of attackers like Thon Makar, Johnson Rukundo, Michael Mangon, Samuel Engwau, among others.

With the Africa Club Championships on the horizon, sources from within the home of classic volleyball indicate that the league champions are determined to uphold their dominance in the sport and retain their position at the top for as long as possible.
