Kampala, Uganda – 29th March 2025 | Africa’s fastest man (100M) Ferdinand Omanyala returned to Namboole stadium for the 3rd Uganda Athletics trial with a splendid performance setting a Stadium record of 10.09 sec.

The Kenyan Sprint King raced ahead of his countrymen Meshack Babu (10.41) and Isaac Omurwa (10.62) in heat one in front of a sizeable crowd in Kampala.

“Namboole stadium is where my Sprint Journey began in 2017 when I switched from Rugby, It’s exciting to be back here, beautiful stadium and feeling, it feels good to return when people love me” Said Ferdinand Omanyala.

Omanyala, returning to the track after six months is excited about the season ahead.  Diamond League and World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September are in sight.

“It’s a bit too early to confirm how my season will look like, the race organizers are still tight-lipped, but Diamond League and others, we will know next week” added Omanyala.

Omanyala already bagged the 2025 ASA Grand Prix in South Africa 10 days ago after clocking 10.08 seconds ahead of Tsebo Matsotso and Bradley Nkoana both from South Africa.

Omanyala is looking forward to creating a legacy for the future generations.

“Just like John the Baptist, I am here to prepare the way for sprinters, medals are a bonus, but a lasting legacy is more important to me.

Omanyala, the 2022 Commonwealth, African champion and African record-holder (9.77 seconds) was also impressed with the Nelson Mandela Stadium Facility.

“This is a great Stadium; Uganda should bid to host the World Championship” Omanyala Said.

The ever-smiling Kenyan has also set his sights on expanding the operations of the Omanyala Foundation to include budding athletes from Uganda and Kenya.
