The Uganda Cricket Association recently convened its Annual General Meeting on March 11th, paving the way for the appointment of new leaders to the organization’s various portfolios.

Michael Nuwagaba was re-elected as the UCA Chairman for his second and final two-year term. He expressed his commitment to maintaining the same speed on some of the association’s ongoing projects, with a focus on developing the national teams and improving facilities.

Nuwagaba, the re-appointed Chairman, has also previously served as secretary for a two-year term under the leadership of Bashir Ansasira, whom he succeeded in 2021.

Apart from his administrative role, Nuwagaba also serves as a distinguished board delegate for Wanderers Cricket Club.

With an impressive cricketing background, he donned the national colors and was also a part of the U19 side in the late nineties.

Nuwagaba’s extensive experience and deep-rooted passion for the sport make him an excellent choice for the role of Chairman.

Nuwagaba, a prominent figure in the association, underscored the significance of focusing on the national teams and improving facilities.

He emphasized the continued push for land and partnerships to support various activities.

“We will maintain the same speed on some of these things. As we develop cricket, you need to shock your script. So we shall have a lot of focus on the National teams, as we push for higher ranking and getting close to ODI. The other one that is coming out currently is the issue of facilities. We have been pushing land, and this something we will maintain because it is key for us. We want to improve our nurseries to give us more players and the partnerships to get us into certain places or run some activities. Ideally in a 360, those are very key.” Nuwagaba said.

Jackson Kavuma was crowned as the new Hon Secretary, taking over from Alvin Bagaya.

In his inaugural speech, Kavuma expressed gratitude to the member clubs for trusting him with the critical responsibility of running the association.

The new Hon Secretary promised to prioritize governance and strive to make UCA one of the best-led associations in Uganda.

Kavuma highlighted the importance of governance and the association’s reputation. He expressed confidence in his leadership, promising to lead Uganda cricket to greater heights with the support of all members.

“I thank first of all the member clubs that have entrusted me with the power of running the association, our main agenda this term is governance, and that’s what we are going to focus on. Governance is going to be our priority to ensure that UCA is known as one of the best-led associations in Uganda and we hope with the support of all members, Uganda cricket will be flying to higher heights.” Kavuma asserted.

The Women’s Representative position on the board saw Rita Tinka re-elected, while the board welcomed two new Trustees, Praminder Garcha and Enock Barumba, to join Steve Lumonya.

The new board for Uganda Cricket Association L-R Charles Waiswa Board Member), Michael Nuwagaba (Chairman), Jackson Kavuma (Hon Secretary), Steve Lumonya (Trustee), Sarah Chelengat (NCS Representative), Steve Luswata (Out going Trustee).

The election of new leaders to steer the association undoubtedly sets the stage for more significant achievements in Uganda cricket.
