Ronald Kitosi, a volleyball coach with the Ndejje Elites, has embarked on a journey to Germany to take part in an International volleyball coaching course.
The five-month course is set to equip him with new modern techniques of coaching, which he hopes to utilize to take his team to another level and develop the game of volleyball in Uganda at large.
The scholarship was awarded to Kitosi by the Foreign Affairs of Germany, and his club, the Ndejje Elites, graciously provided him with a ticket as his name was nominated and recommended by the Uganda Volleyball federation, a testament to his reputation and expertise in the sport.
Currently, Kitosi is studying at the University of Leipzig in Germany, where he is expected to engage with other coaches and learn new skills that will undoubtedly be instrumental in improving the game in Uganda.
The program, “Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Science and International Volleyball Coaching,” is a comprehensive course that encompasses a wide range of subjects related to sports science and coaching.
It covers various areas such as sports psychology, coaching methods, performance analysis, and sports medicine. In addition, it offers hands-on training opportunities for students to work with top athletes and coaches in practical settings.
Speaking about the opportunity, Kitosi expressed his excitement and enthusiasm about what the future holds for him and his team.
“I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity to learn and develop new skills in coaching,” Kitosi said. “I am confident that this experience will have a significant impact on my team and the game of volleyball in Uganda at large. I hope to come back with new insights and knowledge that will help me make a difference.”
The International Coaching Course at the University of Leipzig has been taken by several coaches from Uganda before Ronald.
Among these coaches are Sheilla Omuriwe, who is presently the Head Coach of the Men’s National team and took the course in 2015, Tony Lakony, the women’s coach, who also took the course in 2015, and Wilfred Muhumuza, a former soccer coach at Ndejje University, who took the course in 2010.
Kitosi’s ladies -The Elites- are currently leading the Women’s Serie A and are tied with Sport-S at 29 points, but they have a game in hand.
They will be playing against KCCA women who are in third place this weekend, with the aim of extending their lead and potentially retaining the National League championship.
At present, the team is being guided by Waguma Sadat and Emma Kato. Sadat also doubles as coach for the men’s team (Ndejje Sharks) and Emma Kato, on the other hand, is a senior player for the Sharks.
With Kitosi’s determination and passion for the sport, it is clear that his experience in Germany will be invaluable. His dedication to improving the game and his team’s performance is undoubtedly a promising sign for the future of volleyball in Uganda.
