The Ugandan women’s volleyball team served off their campaign in the 2023 African Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship with a resounding victory.

The team squared off against Lesotho in their opening match held in Yaoundé, Cameroon.

The Lady Volleyball Cranes dominated the match from start to finish, securing a commanding 3-0 victory over Lesotho.

The sets played out with scores of 25-10 in the first and third sets, and an even more dominant 25-05 scoreline in the second set.

Uganda’s win not only marked a triumphant return to competitive action for the team but also sent ripples of excitement through their training camp. Eunice Emuron, the captain of the Ugandan squad, expressed her satisfaction with the victory.
“It is amazing that we managed to pick our first win of the championship.” She started.

Emuron acknowledged that their opponent was not weak but highlighted their own strategic play as the key factor in the win.

She attributed the success to their exceptional execution of serves and their overall control of the game.
“I wouldn’t say our opponent was very weak, but our teamwork and control of the game made the difference.”

The victory served as a boost of confidence for the Lady Volleyball Cranes, who had last participated in a competitive match back in 2019.
Tonny Lakony, the team’s coach, expressed his happiness with the team’s strong performance.

He believes that this win instills a sense of confidence as they prepare to take on Morocco, a team that finished third in the previous edition of the championship.

In other matches of the day, Kenya emerged victorious over Rwanda with a 3-0 win, while Nigeria also secured a 3-0 victory against Mali.

Morocco maintained their winning streak with a 3-0 triumph against Burkina Faso, and Egypt emerged triumphant against Algeria with a 3-0 result as well.

As the championship progresses into its second day, the excitement continues to build. Uganda is slated to face Morocco in their upcoming fixture at 16:00hrs.

Kenya and Burkina Faso are scheduled to compete two hours earlier, while Rwanda and Lesotho are set to take the court at midday.
