Nairobi, Kenya – 12 April 2025 | The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) men’s volleyball team was officially flagged off yesterday ahead of their departure to the 46th edition of the Africa Club Championship, scheduled for April 17 to 30, 2025, in Misurata, Libya.

During a brief ceremony held at the Makupa Welfare Centre, the General Manager Infrastructure Development, Eng. Mathews Amuti handed over the flag on behalf of the Managing Director, Capt. William Ruto. Eng. Amuti congratulated the team on being selected by the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) to represent Kenya, following their 2nd runners-up finish in the 2023/2024 KVF Men’s National League Playoffs. The other Kenyan representatives are the General Service Unit (GSU) and Prisons Kenya.

Eng. Amuti urged the team to maintain high standards of discipline, emphasizing that they were not only ambassadors of KPA but also of the nation. He commended their past performances, particularly their top 10 finish in last year’s edition held in Cairo, Egypt, and expressed hope for a podium finish this year.

Receiving the flag on behalf of the Head of Delegation Mr. Geoffrey Kavate, Manager Administration Ms. Catherine Wangare reassured the gathering that the team, under Head Coach James Ontere, has been undergoing intense training in a residential camp in Mombasa and is fully prepared for the continental show.

Team Manager Joel Kosgei, speaking to Afrosports, expressed strong confidence in the squad’s readiness and ambition.
“We have taken lessons from past outings, and this time we’re not just going to participate. We are going to compete. The team is mentally focused, physically prepared, and united in one mission: to bring home a podium finish. Representing Kenya and KPA on a continental stage is both a responsibility and a privilege, and we are ready to make it count.”

The team jets out of the country on Monday, marking their fifth appearance at the prestigious Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB)-organized tournament.
