Nairobi, Kenya, March 28, 2025 | Reigning Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) National League champions, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Women’s Volleyball Team, are set to depart for Abuja, Nigeria, on Tuesday next week for the 46th Edition of the African Club Championship. The tournament, scheduled to take place at the Moshood Abiola Stadium from April 1st – 14th, 2025, will see KCB battle against Africa’s top volleyball clubs in their quest for continental glory.

The official flag-off ceremony was held at KCB Sports Club, Ruaraka, where the team received encouragement from their patron, Judi Sidi Odhiambo

“As we step into this competition, I know the challenge ahead is tough. With powerhouses like Al Ahly, Zamalek, and other top teams in the mix, the battle will be fierce. I urge the team to remain confident, composed, and play the exceptional volleyball we all know of them. This year, we are here to make a statement once again to reaffirm our place among the greats of this sport,” said Odhiambo.

She further highlighted KCB’s commitment to nurturing top volleyball talent in Kenya and beyond:

“We have nurtured exceptional players who have showcased Kenya’s incredible depth of talent on the global stage. Stars like Mercy Moim, Edith Wisa, Juliana Namutira, and Belinda Barasa have made us proud, reinforcing our role in providing them with a platform to excel,” added Odhiambo

Rising Stars: Boke and Terry Poised for a Breakthrough

Among the key highlights of KCB’s squad is the inclusion of two young and promising players, Fridah Boke (Setter) and Malyne Terry (Opposite Hitter), who recently completed their KCSE exams at Kwanthanze Girls High School—a school known for producing Kenya’s top volleyball talent.

Fridah Boke, a skilled setter, is known for her quick reflexes, making her crucial in orchestrating KCB’s attack.

Malyne Terry, a powerful opposite hitter, brings a strong offensive presence with her lethal spikes.

Both players have proven themselves in the national school championships, and now, they have the opportunity to shine at Africa’s most prestigious club competition.

KCB’s Journey in African Volleyball

KCB Women’s Volleyball Team has a strong legacy in continental volleyball. In the 2024 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship, KCB reached the semifinals but fell to Egypt’s Zamalek with a 3-1 loss. They then faced Kenya Pipeline in the third-place playoff.

Notably, KCB lifted the championship title in 2022, demonstrating their ability to compete at the highest level. This year, the team is determined to reclaim the trophy and assert their dominance on the African stage.
