 International Boxing Day set for Kinshasa

The Democratic Republic of the Congo National team faces 6 boxers from the African continent in exciting fights to mark International Boxing Day. The event on August 27th will be highlighted by 6 men’s and women’s bouts at the central celebration stage in Kinshasa. 

Before the main event, the open-to-the-public boxing training will take place on the square in front of Palais du Peuple. The fights will take place in the Shark club following the concert, the program starts at 15:00 local time (GMT+1). The celebration will be live-streamed on the IBA YouTube channel. 

Defending national champion from DR Congo Nyembo Gisèle (women’s 50kg) meets with Teddy Nakimuli from Uganda, Commonwealth Games 2022 bronze medalist. 

In the women’s 57kg weight category, national champion and African Zone 3 Championships winner Sakobi Marcelat from DR Congo faces Elisabeth Oshoba from Nigeria, who claimed a silver medal at Birmingham 2022 and bronze at African Games 2019. 

In the third fight in the women’s category, 70kg, the participant of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships 2022 Congolese Mbabi Brigitte fights against IBA World Championships silver medalist Alcinda Helena Pangwana from Mozambique.

Participant of African Games 2019, 26-years-old Congolese boxer Mbaya Fiston goes to the ring in 63,5kg against 35-years-old Mauritian veteran Collin Louis Richarno, who claimed silver at Commonwealth Games 2022. 

In men’s 71kg, DR Congo national champion and African Zone 3 Championships winner Tshama David fights against Commonwealth Games 2022 silver medalist Tiago Muxanga from Mozambique. 

In the heaviest weight class of the tournament, men’s 80 kg, Congolese African Games 2019 silver medalist Peter Pita Kabeji meets in a re-match with African Zone 3 Championships winner Fotouo Totap from Cameroon. The boxers met in the African Zone 3 Championships finals, and Totap won then.

57kg: Sakobi Marcelat (DR Congo) vs Elisabeth Oshoba (Nigeria)

70kg: Mbabi Brigitte (DR Congo) vs Alcinda Helena Pangwana (Mozambique)

63,5kg: Mbaya Fiston (DR Congo) vs Collin Louis Richarno (Mauritius)

71kg: Tshama David (DR Congo) vs Tiago Muxanga (Mozambique)

80kg: Peter Pita Kabeji (DR Congo) vs Fotouo Totap (Cameroon)
