Uganda Cricket Association on Wednesday 11th May launched the second round of the ICC challenge league B, a tourney that’s expected to run from 14th June to 28th in Kampala.

The highly anticipated event was scheduled to happen in January this year, but due to the outbreak of the omicron virus, it was post poned.

Six teams from group B namely; Jersey, Hong Kong, Italy, Bermuda, Kenya and host Uganda , are expected to participate in the challenge.

To aid smooth running of the challenge, UCA also inducted members into the local organizing committee that will be headed by Paul Kaheeru as chairman.

Other members of the committee are; Rita Tinka (Hospitality), Arthur Nuwagaba (Accomodation), Benjamin Musoke (Human Resource), Julius Makubuya (Grounds), Denis Buwembo (Medical), Rokani Sylvester (Security),Joshua Mwanja (Transport), Kenneth Mulondo (Accreditation), Richard Okia (Liaison), Denis Musali (Publicity and Media) and Martin Ondeko (host)

The ICC challenge league B is a qualification pathway to the 2023 50 over world cup. Round one of this tournament was hosted by Oman in 2019 where Uganda won all its five matches and currently are group leaders comfortably three points ahead of Hong Kong.

To see off the launch was state minister for sports Honourable Hamson Obua who applauded the cooperate sponsors of the event and also pledged full support from the government he represents. Accompanying him was a representative from the Kenyan high commission.

Part of the event Sponsors are national team funders Plascon, Uganda Tourism Board, Speke Resort Munyonyo, and Roketelkom.

“I would say preparations are now at 70%, the remaining 30 being the requests I’ve addressed to the minister, which are security, securing all the grounds to be used and receiving information from the visiting teams” the Chairman of the LOC Paul Kaheeru said in a presser.

“we need about two to three weeks to attain the 100% preparedness” he further explained

Participants and officials are to be accommodated at Speke Resort Munyonyo as games will be played at both Lugogo and kyambogo cricket ovals. Entebbe cricket grounds will be available for standby as revealed by the committee.
