Host Rwanda succumbs to Victoria Pearls in Kwibuka Women’s T20

Uganda won against Rwanda by 6 wickets in the opening game of the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament 2022 yesterday at the Gahanga Stadium in Kigali.

Having won the toss, Rwanda opted to bat first collecting 68 runs all out in 19.1 overs.

Uganda chased down the daring target through Gloria Abukor and Janet Mbabazi who scored 34 and 19 runs respectively to affect the scorecard later on winning the game with 69 runs in 14.0 overs.

With 2 wickets and 12 runs to her name, Uganda’s Consylate Awekinomungu was named player of the match.

From other games played, Kenya handed Botswana a wide range to bat down after gathering 137 runs in 20.0 overs. Botswana only closed in to 102 runs in 20.0 overs hence Kenya winning with 35 runs.

At the same event, Cup debutants Brasil lost to Nigeria by 8 wickets from 10.5 overs.

Living in the moment is Thapelo Modise of Botswana W who leads the batsmen with 61 runs and a strike rate of 103.39 followed by Uganda’s Gloria Abukor with 34 runs and a strike rate of 75.56.

Today Uganda face off with neighbors to the east, Kenya at 10:30am as Botswana take on Tanzania same time before host Rwanda plays Brasil in the afternoon at 2:30pm.

Germany also look ahead to playing their maiden match of the tournament today 2:30pm against Nigeria at the IPRC Oval.
