The Commonwealth Games Association of Uganda launched their game changers project on Saturday 12th at 10am in the morning in Lugogo Kampala.

The project is aimed at enabling School going children in Uganda together with different communities to live in-line with the Commonwealth Games Federation Values and integrate them into their sports and daily lives as a means of communicating the values of sports and physical activity.

The CWGF values are;

Humanity, which encircles embracing all Commonwealth Athletes and citizens.

Equality, that brings people together as equals and promotes fairness.

Destiny, enabling athletes, citizens and communities to realize their ambitions and aspirations.

“This program will fully engage with schools, a school will pick a single or multiple sports and they will be linked with the National Federation for talent identification and development.” The Chairperson of the talent identification commission Mr. Yariyo Kasasa said while addressing a media in Kampala.

32 schools have been identified from four regions of the country as centers of excellence in sports and co – curricular activities. Teachers from the different schools will undergo a training on the material and contents of the values and thereafter establish clubs in their respective schools where they will execute activities in line with the values of the CGAU.

This project targets students aged 14 to 21 years who will be recognized and awarded with accolades as well as certificates of performance at the close of the project.

There will also be an annual ceremony with the aim of recognizing outstanding clubs from every region that would have caused impactful change in their schools and communities.

A memorandum of Understanding was signed with representatives from the identified schools.

“The initiative will encourage full participation of students because they all come from different backgrounds and with sports, their lives will be improved.” Remarked one of the representatives Mr. Linekar Lumbuye from Kibuli SS a Uganda Sports powerhouse.

The project will aid in talent identification as schools will introduce new talents, nurture and develop the outstanding gifted with help from CGAU member federations and associations.
