Kampala Queens FC have been crowned as champions of the FUFA Women Super League 2022/2023 season.

The Queens dominated the league with an impressive record of 15 wins, 2 draws and only 1 loss, scoring 33 goals and conceding only 8 in 18 matches.

Their exceptional performance earned them a total of 47 points and secured them the top spot.

Kawempe Muslims WFC finished as runners-up with 33 points, followed closely by Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC with 28 points. These two teams put up a good fight, but ultimately fell short of the championship.

In a stunning turn of events, last year’s champions She Corporate have been relegated to the FUFA Women Elite League after conceding two late goals to draw 2-2 with Kawempe Muslim at the Nakawa Stadium.

Despite their valiant efforts to defend their title, She Corporate’s performance throughout the season was not enough to secure them a spot in the top tier of women’s football in Uganda.

With only 20 points and a goal difference that was not favourable, She Corporate found themselves tied with Lady Doves in the league table.

However, it was Lady Doves who managed to secure their spot in the FUFA Women Super League 2023/2024 season, leaving She Corporate to face the consequences of their lacklustre performance this year.

This turn of events will no doubt be a disappointment for She Corporate fans, who had high hopes for the team going into the season.

Nonetheless, the competitive nature of the league means that only the best teams will survive, and She Corporate will now have to work hard to earn their way back into the top tier of Ugandan women’s football.

Individual honours were also awarded, with Nyinagahirwa Shakirah of Kampala Queens FC winning the Golden Boot award for scoring 12 goals and also taking home the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

Daisy Nakaziro of Uganda Martyrs Lubaga WFC was named the best goalkeeper, having managed to keep 9 clean sheets in 12 games.

Lady Doves FC Official were awarded the fair play award for their exemplary behaviour throughout the season.

The FUFA Women Super League 2022/2023 season has been a thrilling one, with lots of exciting moments and individual performances to celebrate.

Fans of women’s football in Uganda will no doubt be eagerly anticipating the start of the next season but for now will turn attention to the women’s Uganda Cup.
