Kigali, Rwanda – 22 June 2025 | Kenya’s Chema Volleyball Club has made a historic statement at the Genocide Memorial Tournament 2025, advancing to the men’s final on their debut appearance after a dominant run that saw them eliminate two tournament powerhouses APR of Rwanda and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA).

Chema began their campaign on Friday, toppling Rwandan league champions APR with an emphatic 3-1 victory in the group stage. It was a performance that turned heads across Kigali, as the newcomers showed no signs of stage fright in front of a passionate home crowd.

They returned to the court on Saturday night at the iconic Petit Stade and delivered another statement performance in the semifinals against their Kenyan counterparts KPA. Chema sealed a 3-1 win with set scores of 25-22, 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, showcasing grit, and impressive teamwork throughout the encounter.

With that win, Chema VC has booked a spot in the final showdown against hosts Rwanda Energy Group (REG), who powered past Chazpir of Uganda in a commanding straight-sets victory earlier in the evening.

In the women’s competition, APR Women were knocked out after a 3-1 loss to Police Women. At the same time, Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) clinched their finals slot with a narrow but thrilling win over Kepler in the other semifinal.

Bronze Medal Matches Scheduled for Sunday

The tournament wraps up Sunday with the bronze medal contests taking place at 12 noon:

Men’s Bronze Match: Kenya Ports Authority against Chazpir of Uganda, NPC Arena, while Women’s Bronze Match: APR vs Kepler at Petit Stade.
