The Burundian Boxing National Team are currently in Uganda for week 25 of the Boxing Champions League which will take place on Saturday this weekend at the MTN Arena in Lugogo, following a request by their Federation President to take part in the Fortnite event.

With a team of six boxers, the Intamba Mu Rugamba Boxing Team had their first training on Thursday morning at the NCS Lugogo Gym since arriving in the country on Wednesday evening.

Both Uganda and Burundi will seek to use this avenue to strengthen their relationship, as they trade experience among the Boxers, and create opportunities for the Boxing fraternity within the East African Community.

“As organizers, we are pleased that we can attract countries across the border to participate in the boxing champions league. It is also proof that whatever we are doing is a positive and people appreciate what we are doing.” CEO Top Boy Promotions Sula Kamoga said.

Uganda’s Boxing team -the Bombers- will line up their second team and the Chief Organizer Sula Kamoga explained this as an effort to give exposure to the second-best boxers in the Champions League.

“As Uganda, we shall not be fielding our top boxers, but the second best in their respective bouts, and through this, we are trying to bring up more experienced boxers. The first team boxers have had enough exposure traveling to Tanzania, and Mozambique among others, so we want the second team to also have the experience playing different countries.” He added.

Burundi Head Coach Joseph Nkamicaniye tells of how his team aims to put up stiff competition against the Bombers, and so does the team’s Captain Nestroy Nduwarugira.

“Our mission is to participate in the Uganda Boxing Champions League, and through this, our boxers will attain enough experience, and so will our officials as they exchange management skills with Ugandan officials,” Joseph stated.

“We made our best selection from Burundi and we expect to get as many victories as possible, come Saturday.” He concluded.

In the most recent fight against a Ugandan, Nestroy lost to Isaac Zebra Ssenyange in May this year at the 2022 Mount Kilimanjaro Boxing Championship, but he vowed to avenge his defeat on Saturday.

This weekend, he will verse Uganda’s Kasujja Richard in the Lightmiddle weight before Matovu Ukasha and Burundi’s Rally Irakoze climax the week.

In the middleweight, Okello Ronald will face off with Ramadhan Nzeyimana, and Eric Mahatane will fight Wasswa Ssali in the Lightweight.

Gayita Ronald will weigh up against Burundi’s Moussa Nimubona in the Flyweight, and in the nations’ first match of the day, lady boxers Nandaula Zahara, and Burundi’s Liliane Nshimirimana will battle in the Featherweight.

There will be six curtain-raiser matches between the Ugandans starting at 5 pm before the main event boxes off at 8 pm, at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.
