Boxing Champions League Week 18; Gayita blames defeat on referee

Nakawa’s Frank Kasozi smacked Gayita Ronald of Cobap BC in the flyweight 51kgs category of the Boxing champions league at the mtn Arena, yesterday in Lugogo.

Gayita came into the contest as the big bull from week 16 where he stopped Ssozi Ezra in the third round but flunked to stop a well-composed Kasozi in this one.

After an explosive round one and two from Gayita, Kasozi amplified his game in round three with a series of three punches and a jab while maintaining his composure and body distance, a system that proved difficult for Gayita to tame down.

“I remained calm in the first round as I tried to study the style he had come with this time. I didn’t score alot in the second round because I knew he (Gayita) starts to play in the third round so I was saving some gas.” Kasozi said after the fight.

Gayita asserted the fight was unfairly ruled after losing on a 4:1 split decision in this bout of week 18.

“I am not happy with the result because I am used to winning and I beat “the kid” in every round. I am starting to think my fights are bought off and the referees are paid for my losses because everyone present could see that I won this fight. Changes need to be done.” Gayita told Afrosports.

“No doubt Frank put up a good resistance holding up till round five but I scored more than he did.” He emphasized, adding on that the match has taught him a lesson which is not to let his opponents survive past the third round as they are awarded for perseverance and therefore warned his next prey to watch out for what’s coming at them.

In the boys’ juniors, L/ fly 48kgs, Ouma Aron beat Mutambi Timothy in a 4-1 split. Nsubuga Abdul lost unanimously to Hakim Lubega in the Bantamweight 54kgs, and in the Feather 57kgs Semuwemba Abdul from Lukanga boxing club beat UBF select’s Kandi Melton in a 3-2 split while Mugisha Muzoora Amon out-worked Sparks’ Higenyi Charles unanimously in their lightweight bout.

Other fights from the youth category had Bala Geko up against Cobap’s Angel Ssozi in the Bantamweight 54kgs, and the latter lost unanimously.

In the light middleweight 71kgs, Wakoli Habimana of Mutajjazi Kibuli fell to Omondi Shadrack in an explosive 3-2 thriller.

And in a guest bout, Lightweights 60kgs Mukiibi Huzaifa and Musanje Ashraf (both deaf), traded punches unbelievably with at most skill, to put up an electrifying game for the revelers before Nakamya Daphine was saved from a punishing from Lukanga’s Najjemba Nadia aka “the Tomboy”.

Daphin was seen limping off the ring after the Referee Stopped the Contest (RSC) halfway through the second round.
