The tournament is on home soil. The players plead with the community to go to the John Barrable Hall to show their support.
The All Africa Senior Championships for badminton take place from February 13 to 19 at the John Barrable Hall.

National coach Stewart Carson has selected an experienced squad of 13 players comprising specialists in singles, doubles and mixed doubles badminton competitions.

The players plead with the community to rally behind them because they want to lift the trophy on home soil.

The 17-year-old has been part of the team since 2020. She represented SA at the continental championships in 2020, 2021 and last year and competed in all disciplines.

Her most prized achievement is a gold medal she won with her women’s doubles partner, Johanita Scholtz, in 2021 at the games in Uganda.

“It’s a wonderful experience for me and amazing to fly the South African flag on home ground and be able to have our supporters watch us live.

“Please come and cheer us on as we fight for gold. We’d love to see everybody there,” she said.

“It’s the highest level someone can reach and is always a blessing you should be grateful for. Every opportunity I get to do this will be done with maximum effort.”

He encouraged his teammates to aim for the stars.

“Work hard in any and everything you do. Give your best, and never think you are dreaming too high. With a little bit of luck, you can reach your goals.”

“It’s an honour and a privilege to play for my country. It’s the highest level in our sport, and not many people get the opportunity to do this. I will grab it with both hands and, hopefully, do my country proud.

“Support is an incredible thing in sport. To the people of Benoni, it would be appreciated if you come to support us and help Team South Africa make you proud.”
