Akasumagizi emerged victorious at the Batball Open Central Edition tournament, that was held over the weekend at the Lakeside Oval Entebbe.

Despite losing all their group games on the first day, Akasumagizi managed to bounce back and win their remaining two games on the second day, including the final against Kalooli by 25 runs.

The Batball Open is a tournament aimed at promoting cricket and the central edition was all about raising awareness on the fight against AIDS.

The Central Edition is the fourth edition of the tournament, following the East, Nile, and North editions, which were held in their respective regions.

Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Paul Kaheru, expressed his delight with the successful tournament, which saw all nine games broadcast live on Batball.tv.

He praised the players for showcasing their talent and the tournament for contributing to the development of cricket in Uganda.

The tournament was sponsored by Roke Telkom, Uganda Cricket Association, and India Julis, with Batball Uganda Limited as the organizer.

Martin Ondeko, the CEO of Batball Uganda Limited, said that the tournament’s success showed that people were starting to understand the organization’s objectives, and that it would become an annual event.

The best 16 players from the Central Edition will join the best players from the other three regions to compete in the Inter-Regional tournament called Batball X in June this year.

The focus now shifts to the Western region tournament, which will be held next month in the same format under the same rules.

Individual awards were also presented, with Christopher Kidega from Akasumagizi winning the Best Batter award, Balidawa Ali from Naddibanga winning the Best Bowler award, Bosco Akena from Kalooli winning the Best Fielder award, Abdallah Shakur from Akasumagizi winning the Best Wicket Keeper award, and Jaffer Ochaya from Akasumagizi being named MVP.
