Ahly survive brutal final to become champions

Kelibia, Tunisia, May 16, 2022 – Al Ahly are champions of Africa once again after surviving a fierce final against Esperance de Tunis with an exciting 3-1 (25-22, 25-22, 24-26, 25-17) thumping over 2021 champions Esperance de Tunis.

Fighting through this immense wall of mild discomfort and minor annoyance from the local fans Ahly somehow warmed up and were ready to go as they won their fifteen continental titles with merit.

It is yet another historic final that will go down in the history books. It was difficult to believe it but Ahly had took the crown back from Esperance as African champions for 2022! It was a convincing win and continues the epic battle between these two giants at the top of Africa in competitive volleyball.

Gisagara won bronze after a historic win over Port Douala. The Rwandans have their best ever performance at this level and their 3-1 (18-25, 25-23, 25-18, 25-18) will go down in their history after so many years of trying.

In the playoff for position 5-6, organizers Club Olympique de Kelibia lost to Kenya Ports Authority 3-2 (20-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-8). The Kenyans claimed the 5th position in the championship whiles COK finished position six.

Nigeria customs services won position seven after a 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-20) win against FAP. The Cameroonians completed the championship on position eight.

In the final ranking match for position 9-10, AS Douanes came from a set down to beat Equity bank of Kenya 3-2 (23-25, 25-22, 24-26, 26-24, 15-13) to finish the championship on position nine as the first timers Equity bank have position ten.

Madda Walabu University finished eleventh position after a 3-2 (12-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-14, 15-8) win over AS INJS. Madda had to came from two sets down to win the ranking match. The Ivorians occupied the twelfth position.
