Kenya Rugby 7s captain Nelson Oyoo believes Kenya will have themselves to compete against come Saturday.

Shujas are in Kampala for the Africa Rugby 7s tournament this weekend.

‘We are our biggest competitor considering that we are even the defending Champions, we have had good preparations coming into this’. Oyoo said during the Captain’s run in Kampala Friday morning.

Oyoo will captain the side that also has seasoned Kenya Sevens stars Alvin Otieno, Billy Odhiambo, Bush Mwale and Daniel Taabu.

Head coach Innocent Simiyu named a strong squad for Africa Sevens in Uganda this weekend.

The championship will also serve as the Rugby World Cup Sevens qualifiers.

Simiyu has handed youngster Amon Wamalwa his debut as he named the Kenya Sevens squad.

“Although we have been inconsistent in the World Rugby Sevens Series, we are ready and going for the title in Uganda,” Simiyu told Kenya media in Nairobi

Simiyu said Wamalwa’s performance has been good since he was identified at the Safari Sevens last year.

Fourteen countries will vie for top honours in the men’s event where Kenya starts its campaign against Senegal on Saturday.

Kenya begin their title defence in the first match of the 2022 event against Senegal who finished seventh in the previous event.
