Ukraine based Faruku Miya is on the Uganda Cranes squad set for a 4-Nations tournament in Uzbekistan.

Miya who plays for Lviv, has been in Uganda having ‘escaped’ after Russia’ invasion of Ukraine last month. He last played for Uganda Cranes against Malawi in Blantyre in the 1-0 loss during the AFCON 2021 qualifiers in March 2021.

The Navruz Cup in Uzbekistan is set for 25th to 29th March 2022.

Uganda Cranes will play in the four nation tournament that has Tajikistan, hosts Uzbekistan and Kyrgz Republic as a precursor for the upcoming AFCON 2023 and CHAN 2023 qualifiers.

Uganda Cranes missed out in the last AFCON final in Cameroon.

‘We are using the Navruz Cup to assemble the teams that will feature in the qualifiers of CHAN 2023 and AFCON 2023 tournaments. There is a balance of players in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League as well as those featuring in the diaspora leagues’ head coach Micho revealed to FUFA Website.

The team has 13 players featuring for the different clubs in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and 11 of those are foreign based.

Defender Bevis Mugabi (Motherwell – Scotland) and Emmanuel Okwii (Kiyovu -Rwanda) have returned to the squad.

Uganda Cranes on Sunday played a regional tour match against Buganda region select at the Naama playground in Mityana on the outskirts of Kampala City, it ended 1-1.
