Nairobi, Kenya | The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) delegation, led by President Bouchra Hajij and Walter Otieno, arrives in Nairobi, to assess Kenya’s readiness to host the 2026 Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship. The evaluation runs from 25th to 28th February.
In a landmark achievement for Kenyan volleyball, Nairobi was confirmed as the host city for the continental showpiece scheduled to take place from 23rd August to 5th September 2026. The championship marks the return of the prestigious senior women’s event to Kenya for the first time since 2015 and will serve as a crucial qualification pathway for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

The CAVB delegation will conduct a detailed evaluation in accordance with CAVB Competition Regulations, covering key hosting requirements including:
Competition and training venues (lighting, seating capacity, warm-up courts), Accommodation facilities for participating teams and officials, Transport and logistics arrangements, Medical services and anti-doping readiness, Media operations and live broadcast infrastructure, Government guarantees on security, visas, customs facilitation and overall support. The inspection will also assess operational preparedness, infrastructure standards, and the functionality of the Local Organising Committee.

The Government of Kenya, through the Ministry of Sports, has reaffirmed its full support in facilitating a successful championship, including security arrangements, medical services, and seamless entry procedures for all participating nations.
The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) has equally pledged full compliance with all CAVB hosting requirements and remains committed to delivering a world-class tournament that reflects Kenya’s rich volleyball heritage.
The last Women’s African Nations Volleyball Championship (2023) was won by Kenya. The “Malkia Strikers” reclaimed their crown by defeating Egypt 3–0 in the final held in Yaoundé, Cameroon. This was a significant victory for Kenya as it was their first continental title since 2015, ending a run of three consecutive titles by Cameroon.

Following the inspection, the CAVB President, Bouchra Hajij, is expected to formalise the hosting agreement should the assessment conclude positively — marking a significant milestone in the countdown to the 2026 championship.
