Nairobi, Kenya | The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) has officially appointed the technical and management team for the Kenya Women U20 National Volleyball Team. This follows a resolution during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on 20th July 2025.
The team will represent Kenya at the 2025 U20 Women African Nations Volleyball Championships, scheduled for 2nd to 12th August 2025 in Yaounde, Cameroon.
The appointed officials are:

  1. Head of Delegation: Ismail Chege
  2. Team Manager: Kenneth Tonui
  3. Head Coach: Jackline Barasa
  4. Assistant Coach: Luka Kariuki
  5. Physiotherapist: Bala Conceptor

Barasa will be assisted by Luka Kariuki as she seeks to steer the young queens to victory at the continental championships, set for August 2-12 in the Cameroonian capital.

The coach’s work is cut out following the team’s dismal performance at the last edition of the competition, held in Tunis, Tunisia where they left without a single win.

Kenya lost all their group matches against Egypt, Tunisia and Algeria by straight sets before going down 3-1 to the latter nation in the bronze medal match — losing 20-25, 25-22, 15-25, 15-25.

Barasa is presently head coach at Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) who she led to the playoffs of this year’s Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Women’s league before losing to Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) in straight sets.

Other members of the national under 20 team technical bench include Ismail Chege as head of delegation and Kenneth Tonui as team manager.

The squad commence residential training on Tuesday (July 22) at the Kasarani Indoor Gymnasium, ahead of the tourney.

The national team will consist of 1 international Referee and 23 players, selected from various clubs and institutions across the country.
Preparations will commence on Tuesday, 22nd July 2025 at Nyayo Stadium, where the team is expected to begin residential training ahead of the continental showdown.

KVF Secretary General expressed confidence in the appointed team, emphasizing Kenya’s determination to secure continental honors and qualify for future global competitions.
