Zimbabwe’s Senior Men’s Sevens side, the Cheetahs, have named their traveling squad for the highly anticipated 2025 Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens Cup set to take place in Mauritius from June 21st to 22nd.
With a renewed sense of purpose and pride, the Cheetahs are poised to reignite their continental campaign and challenge for glory in what promises to be a fiercely competitive tournament.

The squad, led by head coach Ricky Paul Chirengende, features a mix of experienced campaigners and rising stars, all of whom have excelled through domestic competitions and regional build-up fixtures.
It features African champions from the 15s side (The Sables) all of whom are fierce contenders in their roles especially as starters.
The Cheetahs are drawn in Pool C alongside tournament hosts Mauritius, Tunisia, and Madagascar.
Despite the pool not featuring continental juggernauts like South Africa or Uganda, it presents a deceptively tough pathway with every team capable of producing major upsets.
The hosts will enjoy home advantage, while Tunisia and Madagascar bring pace and unpredictability to the table.
Zimbabwe’s First Fixtures (expected schedule):
• vs Tunisia – June 21, Morning
• vs Mauritius – June 21, Midday
• vs Madagascar – June 21, Afternoon
Only the top two teams in each pool are guaranteed a place in the knockout stages, making every match a must-win encounter.
Speaking at the team announcement, Coach Ricky Paul Chirengende expressed confidence in the group:
“We’ve got a well-balanced squad that has earned their spots through hard work and consistency. Our preparations have been focused and deliberate, and now it’s time to go out there and perform. We’re ready for the challenge.”

The last time Zimbabwe lifted the Rugby Africa Sevens title was in 2012, and the hunger to reclaim that crown has never been greater.
A top finish in Mauritius not only brings silverware but positions the Cheetahs for qualification pathways to the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series, a crucial step toward global competition and Olympic qualification.
Team Manager Tafadzwa Mhende added, “This team is battle-tested and driven. With strong backing from our partners and the union, we believe the Cheetahs will do Zimbabwe proud.”
The Cheetahs head to Mauritius not just as competitors—but as contenders on Wednesday the 18th of June at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.
Physiotherapist Thelma Musingwini and Team Manager Tafadzwa Mhende round out the management team, ensuring the side is fully supported both on and off the pitch.
