Kampala Capital City Authority has committed to upgrading the training facility of the newly crowned Uganda National Women’s volleyball league Champions, KCCA ladies. This was revealed by Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago this morning in Kampala.

Lukwago who is Patron to all KCCA Sports entities was officially receiving the National Volleyball League trophy from the team.

KCCA defeated Sport-S Volleyball club 2-1 to win the 2022/23 crown on 7th May 2023.
The League champions have been hibernating at Naguru Katale Primary School in the Kampala suburb, this is after the National Council of Sports booted them and other sports entities from the Lugogo Sports Complex.

“As the Authority, we have earmarked One Hundred Million Shillings ($26,810) to upgrade the Naguru Katale Primary School facility to a standard that befits Champions”. A jovial Lukwago said.

Uganda has only two sensible indoor stadiums, Nakirebe 21km in Mpigi privately owned, and Government owned Lugogo Indoor stadium. The government indoor stadium is shared between Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball, and social events, access is usually reserved to the highest bidder.

There is also another mini Stadium within Kampala, The O’kla Stadium where Uganda National Volleyball League took refuge. Another would be a first-class facility that was abandoned at it’s infant stage lies painfully at Makerere University.

Construction of the facility, whatever design or format it will take, shall bring the game of volleyball closer to the communities. Naguru has been a major breeding ground for Uganda’s top athletes, and the facility could also offer a decent option for the organizers of the National Volleyball League.

On the same day, Lukwago also rewarded the ladies’ team with $2,681 (10 Million Uganda Shillings for winning the league after seventeen years of wait.

“We appreciate the efforts put in and we promise to continue supporting you regardless of the results, we have also given you this money to appreciate your efforts”. Lukwago concluded.

KCCA ladies also earned the ticket to represent Uganda at the 2024 Women’s Africa Club Championship.
