At the Markötter Stadium in Stellenbosch, South Africa, the Uganda 7s emerged victorious in their opening match of the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series 2023, defeating Brazil 7s 31-7.

The match got off to a positive start for Brazil 7s as Bourda-Couhet scored the opening try of the game that was followed by a conversion by Cruz Silva.

Uganda responded quickly, with Nobert Okeny scoring their first try in the seventh minute. Aaron Ofoyrwoth then converted the try, leveling the score at 7-7.

Aaron Ofoyrwoth was later awarded the player of the match, after stamping his boot-prints all over the match at full time.

The victory for Uganda in their opening match of the tournament sets them off to a great start and will give them confidence going forward.

Uganda came out firing in the second half, with Aaron Ofoyrwoth scoring two more tries in quick succession in the 9th and 10th minutes, both of which he converted to extend their lead to 21-7.

Michael Okorach then scored Uganda’s fourth try in the 13th minute, taking their lead to 26-7, before Allan Olongo added a fifth try in the 16th minute, increasing their lead to 31-7.

Although Aaron missed the conversions for both tries, it didn’t matter as Uganda had already secured an impressive victory.

It was a dominant performance by Uganda 7s, especially in the second half, and they will be looking to carry this momentum into their next match against Korea 7s.

Meanwhile, Brazil 7s will take on Germany 7s in their next encounter.

Germany leads the pool B table with three points, having won their only game so far and boasting an impressive +48 point difference.

Uganda also has three points, having won their opening game by a margin of 24 points.

Brazil and Korea, however, find themselves at the bottom of the table, both having lost their only game so far.

Brazil’s point difference of -24 sees them sitting in third place, while Korea’s -48 puts them in last place.
