The 2023 season of the Corporate League kicked off on Sunday at the Kyadondo Rugby grounds with over 65 companies participating in the football event.

The league is designed to provide an opportunity for busy professionals to engage in physical activities and avoid lifestyle diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and blood clots.

Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the Corporate League, Dennis Mbidde Ssebugwawo, emphasized the importance of participating in such games for overall health and wellbeing.

He noted that individuals in the corporate world are often susceptible to these diseases due to their sedentary lifestyles and lack of physical activity.

Ssebugwawo also highlighted the issue of depression and stress in the workplace and how it can lead to serious health issues, including suicide.

He explained that the Corporate Games provide a platform for employees to interact with colleagues outside of work, promoting teamwork, communication, and a healthy work-life balance.

The Corporate League has gained popularity in recent years, with more and more companies recognizing the importance of promoting physical activity and wellbeing among their employees.

The league offers a variety of sports, including football, basketball, and volleyball, and provides a fun and competitive environment for individuals to stay active and healthy.

The event was well attended, with enthusiastic participants showcasing their skills on the field. The Corporate Games will continue throughout the year, with various sporting events scheduled in different locations across the country.

In some of the results from Day one, Bank of Africa emerged victorious with a 1-0 win over Xclusive Cuttings in a tightly contested match.

Bollore Transport Logistics and Vision Group played out a goalless draw, while Buganda Land Board suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Uganda Revenue Authority.

Centenary Bank managed to secure a 2-0 win over Uganda Redcross, and Uganda Civil Aviation Authority dominated Jubilee Life Insurance with a convincing 4-0 victory.

In another match, Chloride Exide faced a tough challenge from Uganda Breweries Limited, eventually succumbing to a 3-0 loss. Meanwhile, Cipla Quality Chemicals failed to make an impact against UETCL, losing 2-0.

And in the final match of the day, Bank of Africa and Centenary Bank faced off in a highly competitive bank derby that saw both teams put up a strong fight. In the end, Centenary Bank managed to come out on top with a 2-1 win over Bank of Africa.

The teams displayed great sportsmanship and impressive skills throughout the matches, showcasing the level of talent in the corporate sector.

After the first round of matches, Centenary Bank has taken the early lead, having played five games and winning four, with a solitary loss to their name. They have amassed 13 points, thanks to their impressive performances on the field.

Hot on Centenary Bank’s heels is UETCL, who have also won four games in five, drawing the other game. However, they lost two points due to bookings, which has placed them in second position with 12 points. They will be hoping to make up the lost ground in the coming matches and overtake Centenary Bank.

Uganda Revenue Authority has also shown their potential by winning three games out of four and losing just one. With 10 points, they sit in third position on the table.

MTN Uganda has also made a strong start, having won all three games they have played. They sit in fourth position on the table with nine points, but they have played fewer games than the other teams.

In the 35+ category, NSSF, Stanbic, Coca Cola, and Insurance Regulatory Authority are the top four teams with six points each.

The corporate league games will continue next week, and the players are eagerly anticipating another round of exciting matches.
