The Uganda Kabaddi Junior National team has been given a rousing send-off as they set out to participate in the Junior World Kabaddi Championship 2023 in Tehran, Iran. The flag-off ceremony took place at the National Council of Sports offices in Lugogo, where the team of 12 players and four officials were seen off amidst excitement.

The Junior World Kabaddi Championship for men, which will be hosted by Iran for the second time, is scheduled to take place from February 26 to March 5, 2023.

This year’s competition will feature 16 teams from around the world, including Uganda, who finished in sixth place out of 14 nations in the previous edition held in 2019.

The first-ever Junior World Kabaddi Championship was held in November 2019 in Kish Island, where Iran’s national team emerged as champions after defeating Kenya in the final.

Kenya, who were runners-up in the previous edition, will also be participating in this year’s championship.

The tournament is played under the 20 age category for the junior championship, and teams from Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Taiwan, India, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Syria, Germany, Estonia, and Azerbaijan will also be taking part.

The Ugandan team is looking forward to the challenge ahead and is determined to put up a good fight against some of the world’s best kabaddi teams.

The players have been working hard in preparation for the tournament and are eager to showcase their skills on the international stage.

As the team sets off to compete in the Junior World Kabaddi Championship 2023, they have the full support from back home.

The players are hoping for a strong performance, and a better finish than from the previous championship.
