This year, ISBAT University is the new entrant, and KIU has returned to the competition.

In an exciting event, the draws for the 11th season of the University Football League were held on Thursday morning at Kati Kati restaurant in Lugogo.

With 24 universities competing in six groups of four, including the new entrant ISBAT University and the return of KIU, the competition promises to be intense.

Last season’s top four teams, Uganda Matyrs University, St. Lawrence University, Uganda Christian University, and Makerere University Business School, are all back to fight for the championship title, but with six groups of four teams each, the competition is wide open.

I welcome ISBAT University and Kampala International University (KIU), and I thank our sponsors for supporting University Football League which has seen us reach this milestone as we are in our 11th season.”

The groups were drawn as follows: Kabale University, Uganda Matyrs, Bugema University, and University of Kisubi make up Group A, while Group B comprises of IUIU, MUBS, Victoria University, and YMCA.

Group C features Muni University, Kyambogo, Makerere University, and Ndejje University. In Group D, Kumi University, Busitema University, UCU, and KIU will fight for the top three spots.

Group E sees St. Lawrence, Gulu University, International University of East Africa, and Nkumba University face off, and in Group F, Mbarara University of Science, Kampala University, Bishop Stuart, and debutants ISBAT University will compete.

The first match of the season is set to take place on March 7th, with Uganda Matyrs University hosting the game as the defending champions.

Football enthusiasts and supporters of the various universities are looking forward to the start of the season, which promises to be an action-packed and thrilling one.

With the new entrant and the return of KIU, the competition is expected to be even more challenging and competitive than in previous years which had a lesser number than this season’s 24.

“We are excited to be a part of the competition. Our boys have been training so hard, and we expect only wins in the group stages since our group opponents are defeatable.” Anita Nabassa, a representative from ISBAT University said.

The stakes are high, and all teams are gearing up for an exciting and unforgettable season of University football.

The top three teams from each group will progress to the next stage of the competition, and the finals will be played in November, on a date that will be communicated in due course.

It promises to be an exciting season with top-class football on display from these talented university teams.
