The Uganda women’s national basketball team, the Gazelles, have qualified for the final of the Zone Five Afrobasket Qualifiers after defeating Rwanda 78-70 at the Lugogo indoor Arena in Kampala.

The Gazelles put up an impressive display, dominating the game from the beginning and maintaining their lead throughout.

Despite Rwanda’s attempts to close the gap, Uganda held firm and secured their place in the final.

The win means that Uganda will face off against Egypt in the final, which is scheduled to take place tomorrow on Sunday at the Lugogo indoor Arena.

The two teams will be competing for a single slot in the upcoming Afrobasket games to be held in Rwanda.

Even with a doubtful start against Kenya in their opener, the Gazelles have been in excellent form throughout the qualifiers, and their victory against Rwanda has given them a significant boost heading into the final.

The team will be looking to continue their impressive run and secure their place in the prestigious tournament.

Coming into the Zone Five qualifiers, the Gazelles were boosted with a new head Coach in Alberto Antuna who started his stint with summoning 28 players for the tournament.

He would later slim down his team to the mandated 12 skippered by Point Guard Flavia Oketcho, whose defensive plays came in handy as Uganda won convincingly against South Sudan and narrowly against Egypt on Thursday night.

Power Forward Jannon Otto has been a big piece in all the Gazelles build ups, and will be looked at as the team face an opponent filled with thirst to revenge a one point defeat.

The final promises to be an exciting match, with both teams looking to book their place in the Afrobasket games.

Basketball fans across Uganda will be eagerly anticipating the encounter and cheering on the Gazelles in their quest for glory.
