Former Haras El-Hodoud and Zamalek striker Ahmed Hassan Mekki has announced his retirement from football to join Smouha’s coaching staff.

Mekky was one of the most versatile strikers in the Egyptian Premier League modern era since making his debut with Haras El-Hodood in 2007.

The 35-year-old had a successful eight-year spell with Haras El-Hodood scoring 44 goals in 135 Egyptian Premier League games with the club, in addition to winning two Egypt Cup titles, and one Egypt Super Cup with the Alexandria-based club.

In 2015, Mekky moved to Zamalek where he played for one season winning the 2015 Egypt Cup, before joining Smouha the following summer.

Mekky also played for Al Ahli Tripoli, El-Gouna, Entag El-Harby, and Arab Contractors.

On the international level, Mekky made his debut for the Egyptian National Team in 2010 in a friendly against DR Congo. He went on to represent the Pharaohs in 26 games, scoring five goals.

Furthermore, Mekky announced that he had joined Smouha’s new technical staff as Ahmed Samy’s assistant.

“Every beginning has an end. Following a long journey, I am statsified with myself and with what I did for the clubs that I had the honor to wear their shirt, starting with Haras El Hodood Club, which had a great role in my life, then joining Zamalek, which was the most important station in my career, then Smouha, El-Gouna, Arab Contractors, in addition to Libya’s Al Ahly Tripoli,” Mekki said in a statement on his instagram account.

“Today I am starting my life as a coach in the technical staff of Smouha led by Ahmed Sami, who I want to thank for giving me this great opportunity. I also would like to thank the Board of Directors for their precious trust,”.
