The 2023 National Motocross Championship will get underway on the last Sunday of January which is the 29th at the Victoria Raceway track in Garuga.

Today morning -Wednesday-, the Federation of Motorsports Union held a press conference where they launched round one of the championship.

Action in the 2023 National motocross Championship returns with a first round on the 29th this month -January- at the Victoria Race track in Garuga with competition among top riders in eight different classes.

The championship will have eight rounds to be taken to different parts of the country with the addition of two new tracks to the three that were already in use.

The other rounds will be held in Kalisizo – Masaka, Fortportal, Kasanje, and Busiika. The Championship was launched on Wednesday morning at the Uganda Olympic Committee Office in Lugogo, Kampala.

At the launch, the event manager Omar Mayanja said over 100 competitors are expected to be a part of the event and that it will combine both the National motocross Championship and the non-championship sprint event.

The season opener has been dubbed a Uganda vs Kenya affair and clerk of the course George William Ssemakula said this is because of the guest appearance by Kenyan rider Kigen Mutuma who will race against National champions in the Mx1 category.

He also said the season opener will be one to watch out for as a lot of preparation has been done by riders and rider parents behind the scenes.

FMU Deputy Vice President Kisitu Mayanja urged rider parents to apply for rider licenses and clear up insurance requirements as the year will be packed with back to back events.

Defending Champion of the MX1 class and National Team Captain Alistair Blick will be one of the riders to watch out for alongside Fortune Ssentamu, and he says his target will be to defend his title.
