Simon Ssesazzi scored a half-century as Uganda beat Ghana by eight wickets to make it three straight wins at the T20 Africa Cup. His feat helped Uganda chase 133 with 14 balls to spare in a comfortable race.
Riazat Ali Shah’s 17 and Captain Brian Masaba’s 32 were part of the final group game combo that saw Uganda progress fully to the semi-finals.
Uganda takes on Kenya today in the first semi-final at the Sahara Park Willmoore cricket stadium, at 10 am EAT.
“Good aspects from the boys today, though we didn’t execute our bowling plans as we should have at the end of the day we played very comfortably and Simon (Ssesazzi) and Brian (Masaba) gave us a good start,” Mahatlane said.
“We still have a lot of areas to improve, and our semi-final against Kenya tomorrow hopefully we can tick the small boxes that are left to tick but we are excited about the game.” He added.
Uganda already had one foot in the semis after their game with Mozambique, but Captain Brian Masaba remarked that in such tournaments, maintaining the momentum is important for the team, and he thinks his side had a much better game than they had against Mozambique in the groups.
“We look forward to the game against Kenya tomorrow, and that is a big game for us because our games against them are always tough and intense.” Masaba said
“But it’s just another game to us as long as we go and execute as we should.” He concluded.
After asking to bat first, an opening partnership of James Vifah and Samson Awiah put on 84 to give Ghana a strong start before they were seized by Pascal Murungi and Fred Achellam respectively.
Cosmas Kyewuta trapped Joseph Kwame lbw on his very first ball, to deny him any usefulness for his side.
Assistant Captain Deus Muhumuza scored 10 in 15 balls and Ali Shah made 17 not out to close the second innings.
